El Camino Men's Soccer Completes Historic Run In South Coast Conference

The El Camino College men's soccer team finished a 19-1 regular season by defeating Mt. San Antonio, 3-0, to capture the South Coast Conference Tournament title on Friday at Long Beach City College. 

The Warriors went 9-0 to win the SCC South Division title, their first conference championship since 2014 and seventh since joining the SCC in 1986. Ranked #2 in the state sports information communicators poll, ECC has won 17 straight, including a 5-0 win over Los Angeles City in the tourney semifinals and its second win over the Mounties.

In the title match, Shingo Nagano and Jovanny Mejia scored goals two minutes apart in the first half and the Warriors never looked back. 

Mt. San Antonio, 19th in the state rankings, did win their seventh consecutive SCC title, winning the North Division crown with a 5-1-3 mark. The Mounties (7-5-9 overall) have won 17 SCC titles in their history, all since 1999. Mt. SAC reached the finals with its ninth tie of the year, 0-0 v. Long Beach, but advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4. Goalie Daniel Ramirez made four saves.

Mt. SAC hasn't scored a regulation goal since the SCC regular season finale, a 3-0 win over East Los Angeles on Oct. 31. 

THIRD PLACE FINAL: Long Beach 5, Los Angeles City 1: The Vikings roared to the win behind a goal and two assists by Kayvon Monfared. The Cubs, the #6 seed, surprised #3 Cerritos in the first round, rallying from 2-0 down to tie 2-2, then advancing on penalty kicks, 3-2. Edison Lopez scored the tying goal in regulation in the 63rd minute.

FIFTH PLACE FINAL: Cerritos 2, Rio Hondo 1: The Falcons won a goal by Mark Cristino that broke a 1-1 tie in the 56th minute.

SEVENTH PLACE FINAL: Pasadena City 2, Compton 0: The Lancers grabbed a lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Angel Ballesteros to go on to the victory.

NINTH PLACE FINAL: LA Harbor 2, East Los Angeles 1: Luis Romero scored two second-half goals to lift the Seahawks.
