LBCC Collects 21st South Coast Men's Water Polo Title

The best way to describe Long Beach City College's South Coast Conference history in men's water polo is calling it a dynasty. The Vikings picked up its 21st conference title on Nov. 9 when they defeated Mt. San Antonio, 14-9, in the championship game of the 2019 SCC Tournament held at Cerritos College. It was the Vikings third straight crown, 13th in the last 15 years, and 17th since 2000.

Jose Loubriel and Jose Barajas each scored five goals in the title match for LBCC, who were tied with Mt. SAC, 8-8, going into the fourth quarter. Vikings' goalie Matteo Marcato made 11 saves.

In the third place game, Cerritos downed El Camino, 16-8, behind Kevin Elizarraraz's five goals. Chaffey grabbed fifth place with a wild 21-16 win over Rio Hondo. The Panthers were led by Adrian Trejo with nine goals.

It is truly a banner year for SCC water polo as four teams made the 10-team field for the Southern California Championships being played Nov. 14-16 at Riverside City College. Long Beach (26-2) earned the #1 seed, Mt. San Antonio #3, SCC third-place Cerritos #4, and El Camino at #10.
