Mt. SAC, Long Beach Win SCC Women's Hoops Titles; Entire North Division Makes Postseason

Mt. San Antonio College defeated Pasadena City in a close contest, 50-46, on Feb. 21 to capture its first South Coast Conference North Division title in three years and 19th conference crown in its SCC history. The Mounties finished 6-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, Long Beach City College completed a perfect 10-0 run in conference games for the SCC South Division championship. It is also the Vikings first conference title in three years and seventh in their SCC history.

The Mounties earned the #2 seed in this week's start of the Southern California Regional Playoffs and are a part of history as the entire SCC North qualified for the postseason with #8 Rio Hondo, #10 Pasadena (adjusted from #9 to avoid a same conference matchup), #12 LA Trade Tech and #13 East Los Angeles. Last year, all five made it to the playoffs as well, but because Chaffey was also in the division at the time and did not make it, it prevented a 100 percent placement of a single conference. Long Beach picked up the #14 seed as the only South Division team to advance to the regionals.

The All-South Coast Conference Teams included North Player of the Year in sophomore forward Dariel Johnson of Pasadena and the Co-South Players of the Year were both from Long Beach in sophomores Isabel Lizarraga and Donavion Huskey. Mt. SAC's Brian Crichlow and LBCC's Ollie Brent were the SCC Coaches of the Year from their respective divisions.
