El Camino Class Of 2022 SCC Women's Tennis

A 5-team, South Coast Conference this season, and the first since the shortened 2020 campaign cut down by the COVID-19 pandemic, has a familiar leader thus far at the top of the 2022 standings. El Camino College, the last crowned conference champion in the sport in 2019, is off to a 6-0 SCC start to the dual match season. At 9-0 overall, the Warriors are also one of the top teams in the state this season.

El Camino will likely clinch the conference team title on March 17 when it faces Mt. San Jacinto, a team it already beat 9-0 earlier in SCC play.

The Warriors are led by No. 1 singles player Julia Jones who also teams with #2 Kekoa Vaefa on the squad's #1 doubles. Jones is 8-1 in singles play this season.

College of the Desert (hosted into the SCC along with Mt. San Jacinto) is 3-2 in SCC play and feature maybe the conference's top singles player in Shekinah Daffon. While ECC handed COD its only two conference losses, Jones defeated Daffon in the first encounter, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the SCC opener on Feb. 10. On Mar. 8 in El Camino's 6-3 win, Daffon returned the favor on Jones by sweeping her in top singles, 6-2, 6-2. Shekinah's sister Emuna Daffon is also a strong player at #2 COD singles.

Rio Hondo (4-6-1, 3-3 in SCC play) is paced by the play of #1 player Nicole Lule and she is part of a solid doubles duo with Daisy Haro

Mt. San Antonio (3-4, 2-3) has a strong upper ladder in #1 player Lara Rizkallah and #2 Lydia Jong. Mt. San Jacinto (1-8, 0-6) has a solid talent in #1 player Jenna Kent

While dual matches will continue throughout this month, the SCC Individual Tournament will take place Mar. 29-31 at El Camino College. The CCCAA State Championships this year is slated for Mt. San Antonio College on May 5-7.
