SCC Women's Tennis Individuals Go Top Seeds Way

Following its undefeated South Coast Conference dual season title, the El Camino College women's tennis team picked up more hardware with winning the 2022 individual doubles championship last Thursday. The Warriors' pair of Julia Jones and Kekoa Vaefa, the top-seeded doubles team going into the SCC Individual Tournament , scored an 8-4 victory in the finals against College of the Desert's No. 3 seeded team of Emunah Daffon and Augustina Berrondo.

The SCC Tournament was played on March 29 and March 31 at El Camino College. 

The win marks the third straight year that ECC won the conference doubles crown. Madi Giese and Lina Ito won back-to-back conference crowns in 2018-2019.

The conference's #1 seed, Shekina Daffon of College of the Desert, won the SCC singles title by sweeping her twin sister Emunah Daffon, 6-3, 6-2, in the finals. Shekina dominated in previous matches on her trip to the championship, sweeping ECC's Madeline Evans, 6-0, 6-1, blanking Warriors' Kayla Brown, 6-0, 6-0, and defeating a third ECC player in #5 seed Danay Holman in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-0. 

As the #3 seed, Emunah Daffon rallied to upset #2 seed Jones (ECC), 3-6, 6-0, 10-8, in the other semifinals. 

In doubles, Jones and Vaefa downed teammates and No. 4 seed Holman and Brown in the semifinals, 8-3. Desert's Emunah Daffon-Berrondo also had to get by their own teammates, the #2 seed of Shekina Daffon and Antonella Mazzotti, 9-7, in the semis.
