2020 Season Interrupted: Highlights From South Coast Conference Women's Track and Field

No conference has challenged the South Coast Conference in women's track and field. SCC member teams had won 22 of the last 36 state titles and the last seven straight from 2013-2019.

Cerritos College had won five of those recent titles, including last year's crown. The Falcons also had a stranglehold on the SCC titles, winning the last seven South Coast Finals meets.

With both Cerritos and Mt. San Antonio ready to battle it out again for both the SCC championship and a potential CCCAA state first-place trophy, the conference was also proud to have Mt. SAC and its brand new track at completely renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium be the host of the 2020 state meet. But only some five meets into the season, everything came to a screeching stop due to the worldwide health crisis. The cancellation in March of the rest of the '20 season meant no conference team or individual champions and no potential addition of another state trophy by either SCC contenders Mt. SAC and Cerritos.

Despite the abrupt end of the season, here are some of the highlights of the women's track and field season:

Mt. San Antonio had the top conference marks/times in 10 events with Cerritos occupying the SCC highs in seven events. Long Beach looked good as well with top marks in three events.

Mt. SAC had the state's top times in the 400 meters, 800, 400 hurdles, and 4x400 relay thanks in part to the talented Alia Scott. Meanwhile, Cerritos thrower Tanya Reyes had the top SCC mark in three throwing events, leading the state in both the discus and hammer throw. She made noise at the Falcons very last meet on March 7 when her mighty toss of 176 feet, 6 inches was so good it would have put her #2 in the state in the men's hammer throw.

The following were the SCC's top performers in every event and if applicable those that also were in the state's top 5:
