El Camino Captures First SCC Women's Volleyball Tournament Championship
El Camino College defeated Long Beach City in four sets, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23, to win the first-ever, South Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament Nov. 19 and thus captured its 10th consecutive conference title and 18th in the last 19 seasons. The entire tourney was hosted over three dates, Nov. 13, 15, and on Tuesday's finals night at Long Beach.
The Warriors, the No. 1 seed (15-1 in SCC play, won the rubber match over the No. 2 seed Vikings after the two colleges tied for the SCC South Division crown in 2017 and 2018 and were knotted at the end of the round robin, 14-match portion of the reestablished, 8-team, one conference schedule, each 13-1. LBCC had ended ECC's 14-match win streak on Nov. 8 in a 5-set win over the Warriors.
In the tourney title match, the Vikings won the opening set, but ECC rebounded with solid serve receive and defense to take the next three sets. Tourney MVP Mikayla Clark led the ECC attack with 18 kills and 14 digs. Libero Kelly Donatucci made 31 digs and twin sister Caitlin Donatucci dished out 42 assists. It was a monster performance by LBCC's Brooke Earkman who blasted 28 kills (hit .303) and made 28 digs.
El Camino won its 21st conference title in its South Coast history and shared a title in a one conference only setting for the first time since 2012 when Pasadena City tied the Warriors for that year's championship.
In the third place final, Rio Hondo upset Pasadena City in four sets, 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18, after PCC was 2-0 v. the Roadrunners during the round robin season. RHC's Nicole Vasquez made 14 kills, 14 digs and served five aces. In the fifth place consolation final, Mt. San Antonio downed LA Harbor, 15-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 17-15, behind 21 kills by Jessica Morse. Rohyn Huss totaled an amazing 37 kills in 72 attempts (.417) for the Seahawks, who had their finest season in school history at 12-13 overall.
In the seventh place final, Cerritos beat East Los Angeles, 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-14, helped by 21 kills from Sierra Hernandez-Hardy.

SOCAL REGIONAL SEEDINGS, STATE TOP 25 RANKINGS FEATURE 4 SCC TEAMS
The Southern California Regional Playoff seedings were announced Thursday with El Camino earning the #4 seed, followed by Long Beach at #8, Pasadena at #12 and Rio Hondo at #15. El Camino (21-5) was rated No. 9 on the Final CCCWVCA State Top 25 Rankings, then LBCC (20-7) at #15, PCC (19-9) at #22 and Rio Hondo (15-11) sneaking on at #25.
