El Camino Wins 1st SCC Beach Volleyball Crown

On Friday, El Camino College claimed its first South Coast Conference team title in women's beach volleyball, defeating Long Beach City, 5-0, and College of the Desert, 3-2, to complete a perfect 10-0 run in conference play.

Playing at ECC's Sand Courts, the Warriors (20-3, 10-0) stretched their overall winning streak to 20. Desert played well v. ECC, winning the top two pairs, but the Warriors lower ladder took care of business (see pair results lower in release). Long Beach (7-3) placed second in conference while Mt. San Antonio (6-4) was third. COD (5-5) finished in fourth place in the 6-team league. 

Prior to this season, the Warriors season-high in victories was 17 back in the 2019 season, the last full year of competition prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Warriors also finished conference play undefeated back in 2016 when they were members of the Western State Conference. They went 7-0 in conference play that year and 15-1 overall.

The SCC began hosting beach volleyball in 2018 with LBCC claiming back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. The Warriors ended that reign on Friday, sweeping the Vikings for the first time since 2016. 

The team will now head to the South Coast Conference Pairs Tournament on April 29-30 at Long Beach City College.

The CCCAA SoCal Team Regionals are slated to begin on May 3. The CCCAA SoCal Pairs Regionals will be hosted at ECC on May 6-7.
