Alyssa Olveda First Woman Selected As South Coast Conference Commissioner

Becoming only the fourth person since 1979 but first woman to occupy the position, Alyssa Olveda was named as new South Coast Conference Commissioner, effective this week.
Olveda was chosen after a job search and subsequent interviews conducted by the SCC in December. She takes over for Rich Kollen, who served the position since 2005 and stepped down last month. Don MacKenzie was SCC Commissioner from 1979-2004 and T. Mark Johnson served as interim commissioner in the 2004-2005 sports season.
There were no records kept for the conference leadership position from 1967-1978. The SCC was created in 1967.
"With Alyssa's extensive experience and familiarity with our conference, we are confident that she will hit the ground running and lead us to great success," said Dr. Jose Fierro, President of SCC-member Cerritos College. "We are thrilled to have her on board and look forward to many prosperous years under her leadership."
Olveda has worked in college athletics for 22 years as a sports information assistant at Eastern Washington University, Fresno State, the University of Washington and SCC member El Camino College. She was heavily involved in the CoSIDA Academic All-American and Job Seekers Committees.
In the past decade, she worked at multiple schools in the South Coast, Long Beach State, and the CIF Southern Section, performing game management-related services as as well as game statistics.
Since March, 2023, Olveda received valuable experience as Orange Empire Conference Assistant Commissioner.
