Mt. SAC Posts Highest Points Total For 15th SCC Supremacy Title In A Row

Mt. San Antonio College marked its 15th straight South Coast Conference Supremacy Award with the highest points total in the conference's history at 259.5.

The Mounties won a whopping 13 conference titles as they outdistanced second-place Long Beach City (189.5) by 70 points and third-place Cerritos (171.5) by 88. El Camino placed fourth with 144 and Pasadena City was fifth at 98.5.

The previous conference point high was set by Mt. SAC in 2013-14, scoring 248 points.

The supremacy award was announced at the year-end athletic directors meeting held Monday at Long Beach.

Mt. SAC won its SCC crowns in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's swimming, beach volleyball, and women's tennis. The Mounties also earned 3C2A state championships in women's basketball and women's swimming, the first time in Mt. SAC's history in that sport.

Long Beach accomplished the next most conference titles with six in women's soccer, men and women's water polo, women's volleyball, women's basketball and softball. The Vikings captured the state women's water polo championship.

The other South Coast first-place finishes were earned by Cerritos in women's volleyball and men's basketball, Pasadena City in women's volleyball and women's badminton, El Camino in men's soccer, East Los Angeles in men's basketball, and Compton in men's basketball.

The points are only accumulated through conference finishes/places with bonus points awarded to SCC champions with higher bonus points going to the sports with the most number of teams competing within that specific conference.

ELAC made the biggest point jump from last year's standings at 28 points, but finished in the same spot--sixth. Compton performed a 16-point leap and moved up two places to seventh.

Cerritos remains the last school other than Mt. SAC to win the supremacy award when it tied the Walnut campus for the 2012-2013 title, 199-199. Cerritos also is the last school other than Mt. SAC to win the title outright in 2008-2009.
