After last year's sensational finish that saw Long Beach grab the SCC championship in the final relay, the Vikings and Mt. San Antonio once again are the frontrunners in the 2023 men's swimming and diving season.

In the dual season thus far, the two teams are in first with 4-0 records as both will faceoff on Friday, Mar. 31 for the dual crown. The SCC Championships for the conference title takes place April 20-22 at East Los Angeles College's Swim Stadium.

LBCC's Sullivan Moore is a defending South Coast champion in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly while proving the difference in the final 400 free relay. This season, Moore is #3 in the state in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 butterfly. Long Beach is #4 in the state in the 400 free relay. Teammate Kai Goeku is fifth in the conference in three sprint freestyles, Tony Montes is SCC #3 in both the 100 and 200 backstroke, while Edson Alvarado swam at #2 in the 200 breastroke and #4 in the 100 breastroke.

Mt. SAC is loaded with talented swimmers, led by defending 200 backstroke conference champ Matthew Neoh. The sophomore is #3 in the state this year in that event, #1 in the 50 backstroke (25.32, an invitational event only), #5 in the 100 backstroke, and in the current state top 8 in four other events.

Also returning for the Mounties is Isaiah Huerta, the defending 1,650 freestyle SCC titleist, and Spencer Sorosky the '22 champ in the 100 breaststroke.

Mt. San Antonio's freshmen are already making a splash in Eric Yeh, who holds the state #2 time in the 100 butterfly (50.22), #3 in the 200 fly (one of three swimmers under two minutes), and #4 in the 100 backstroke, and Markus Stegbuchner, third in the state in both the 100 (one of four swimmers under a minute currently) and 200 breastroke events. Samuel Slezak has the state best time in the dual meet only 1,000 freestyle. The Mounties are #4 in the state in the 200 medley relay.

Other conference swimmers of note are Pasadena City's Sam Regan, #2 in the SCC right now in the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles, Cerritos' Kobe Hurtado, who is in the SCC top 5 in three events, El Camino's Gary Bellingham (conference #4 in the 200 breaststroke), and Chaffey's Darian Sanchez, fourth in the SCC 400 IM rankings.
