When Cerritos won the SCC men's track and field title in 2019, then third-place Mt. San Antonio College was itching to bring the first-place trophy back to Walnut in 2020. But the COVID-19 pandemic cut short the 2020 season and the 2021 conference meet was cancelled as well while Mt. SAC participated in a few invitationals. On April 19 and 23 at El Camino College, Mt. SAC turned the 2022 South Coast Conference Men's Track and Field Championships into a virtual Mounties-only show in returning to the winner's circle.

Mt. SAC scored a conference-record 470.5 points, outdistancing second-place Cerritos by 356.5 points in easily capturing the college's 29th SCC team title in the sport. The previous high for team scoring was performed by Mt. SAC in 2017 when it scored 431 points.

Standings: 1. Mt. San Antonio 470.5, 2. Cerritos 114, 3. Long Beach City 106, 4. El Camino 80.5, 5. East Los Angeles 13, 6. Pasadena City 11

Mt. SAC athletes won 15 of the 21 events as Zack Alexander was the lone double-event champ among the bunch by winning the 5,000 meters (15:37.67) and 10,000 (32:12.52). Long Beach's Azjani McGill also scored two titles, winning the 200 (21.27) and long jump (22-9.25).

The Mounties scored 20 or more team points in 12 of the events, and 30 or more in four events. Mt. SAC completely dominated the pole vault with 35.5 of a possible 39 points and 400 meters with 35 of 39 scored. In the pole vault, 400, and 10,000 meters, a Mt. San Antonio athlete occupied each of the top five places.

Mt. San Antonino's Myles Massie's 51-2.25 foot leap to win the triple jump title is the current longest leap this season in the state.
