Mt. San Antonio Scores Record 224.5 Points For State Track and Field Men's Title

Mt. San Antonio College showcased its state-of-the-art facility by scoring a meet record 224.5 points to win the men's team title at the 2022 CCCAA State Track and Field Championships held May 20-21. 

The South Coast Conference champion Mounties now have a baker's dozen in state titles with 13 and also accomplished the feat of winning both the men's and women's championships in the same year for the fifth time--the others in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2018. 

Mt. SAC won a remarkable nine events, and six of those also had the silver medal finisher. The team scored in 16 of the 21 events and had three--100-meter dash, 200, and triple jump--where as many as four Mounties placed among the top 8. The squad also had three score in the high jump and pole vault.

Daniel Abdala, the Men's Oustanding Track Athlete of the Meet, was a double state champ, taking gold in the 10,000 meters (30:20.39) and 5,000 meters (14:38.37). In both events, teammate Jesus Alvarado took second.

Myles Massie (photo below) scored two titles in winning the long jump (23-10.25) and triple jump (51-10.5) as he edged out teammate Namir Hemphill (51-7.75) for that gold on his final attempt. 

Other Mt. SAC state champions were the 4x100 relay of Joey Fox, Chase Williams, Robert Thompson and Asani Hampton in 40.17, Hampton in the 100 (just beat Fox, 10.241 to 10.245), Fox in the 200 (21.04, beat Hampton 21.13), Calvin Oury in the pole vault at 15-9, and Max Daniels in the decathlon with 6,577 points. 

 

Also medaling with second places were Matthew Mannino in the javelin (182-9), Jesus Chavez in the 400 (47.52), Marcus Monroe in the high jump (6-8.75), and Ethan Amata in the pole vault (15-3).

Other SCC perfomers that stood out were Cerritos' Keyaun Sterling in second in the long jump (23-4.5), El Camino's Dominic Britton third in the 110 hurdles (14.21) and Long Beach's Lasalle Jackson third in the triple jump (49-1.5).
