After winning state titles in 2017 and 2018, the Mt. San Antonio College men's cross country team settled for third place at the 2019 state meets. A year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a hunger to return to the throne has the South Coast Conference's Mounties on a mission in the 2021 season.

This week, Mt. SAC was voted No. 1 in the first State 5CTCA Rankings ahead of 2019 champion San Diego Mesa at #2. The Mounties were the only SCC team on the Top 14 while in the regional Top 14, El Camino was #12 and Cerritos at #13.

On Oct. 1, Mt. SAC placed four runners in the top 11 to capture the San Diego Mesa Invitational, defeating the host Olympians, 46 to 52 points. NorCal's American River was right beind in third place at 53 points.
