Perfect Trips To SCC Women's Basketball Titles For Long Beach, Mt. San Antonio

Long Beach City College went 9-0 to win the short-handed, 4-team South Division while Mt. San Antonio was 8-0 on its run to the program's 21st North Division crown as the two squads earned the 2023 South Coast Conference championships.

Both the Vikings (21-6) and Mounties (21-7) have won three consecutive SCC titles. Mt. SAC has a current 17-game win streak in North play since 2020.

Long Beach has not lost in the year 2023, now having won 13 straight, including three wins each over Cerritos, El Camino and LA Harbor. Also in that streak, the Vikings have a win over Mt. SAC, 71-68. Since that defeat, the Mounties have rattled off nine consecutive victories. 

While Cerritos took second in the South (6-3), Pasadena City came on strong, winning four of its last five games to tie Rio Hondo for second place in the North, both at 4-4. In the SCC finale on Friday, PCC head coach Joe Peron became the all-time wins leader by any coach in PCC history with 563 in now his 26th season.

Mt. San Antonio was named the #3 seed while Long Beach the #6 seed as both receive first-round byes in the SoCal Regional Playoffs.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, the other four participants from the South Coast will play with #15 Rio Hondo hosting #18 College of the Canyons, #16 LA Trade-Tech at home v. #17 Victor Valley, #19 Pasadena at #14 San Diego Mesa and #21 Cerritos at #12 Ventura.
