Mt. SAC Breaks Cerritos 7-Season Streak Of Women's Track and Field Titles

Mt. San Antonio College stopped a streak of seven consecutive titles by Cerritos in winning the 2022 crown at the South Coast Conference Women's Track and Field Championships held at El Camino College April 19 and April 23. 

The Mounties won 10 of 21 events and scored a whopping 138 of their 304 total team points in just five events alone. Cerritos finished second with 186 points.

Mt. SAC won its 16th SCC women's track and field title in its history in the conference.

Distance racer Hannah Brown was the only double-event winner for the Mounties, who last won the conference title in 2012. Brown won the 5,000 meters in 18:29.62 and the 10,000 meters in 41:24.51. Mt. SAC scored 38 out of possible 39 points by taking the top seven places in the 5,000. The Mounties added 29 points out of 33 awarded in the 3,000 steeplechase, 24 of 33 in the pole vault, 24 of 29 in the 10,000, and 23 of 39 in the 200 meters. 

The individual champions were spread out among six out of the seven scoring teams at the meet. Other than Brown, the only other double-event champ was Long Beach's Yukina Hamachi, who won the long jump (18-7.25 feet) and the heptathlon (4,260 points) titles. 

Cerritos had the next most individual champs to Mt. SAC with five.
