SCC Track and Field Championship Results

After Cerritos College saw its streak of seven straight titles snapped last year by Mt. San Antonio, the Falcons were determined to return to the winner's circle. Cerritos collected its 14th South Coast Conference women's track and field title at the 2023 SCC Prelims/Finals meet held April 25 and 29 at Cerritos.

Led by Jazzmine Davis and Angelina Escobar winning three each of the team's nine event gold medals, the Falcons also set a new school record in the 4x100 relay triumph of the state's new fastest time this year of 45.34 seconds behind Davis, Kimora Rogers, Rionna Wallace and Aryianna Faircloth. The previous Cerritos record was 45.67 in 2019.

Davis was victorious in the heptathlon (4,599 points), the long jump (19-2.5 feet), and 400 hurdles (1:03.39). Escobar put on a show in the field events by taking first place medals in the shot put (36-8.5), discus throw (136-3, 2-time champion), and javelin (111-8). Davis set the state's highest marks in all three of her victories.

Other event winners for Cerritos were Wallace in the 100 meters (12.08) and Faitalia Ah-Fook in the hammer throw (151-9, 2-time champion).

Mt. San Antonio placed second with 270 points despite totaling more event victories than Cerritos with 10. Claudia Vera led that contingent with conference titles in two distance events. Cyvanna Bowen didn't win the gold in the finals of the 100 hurdles, but set the state's fastest time in the event during the prelims with a 13.92 mark. Amari Weatherford was shut out of the top medal in the 100 and 200 sprints despite holding the state's fastest current times in the two events.

The Mounties' Jaidin Hill has the state's top time in the 400 meters, but chose not to participate in the SCC meet. She did win the 200 meters in 24.19.
