Mt. SAC, Cerritos Dominate Event Winners, But Mounties Take SCC Women's Track/Field Crown

COMPLETE SCC CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
As far as events go, Mt. San Antonio and Cerritos battled it out with the Mounties scoring 10 event champions to the Falcons nine. But in the end it was Mt. SAC's depth that helped it capture the South Coast Conference women's track and field championship at the SCC Finals held at Long Beach City College on Saturday.
It is Mt. San Antonio's 18th conference team title and the program's third in the last four seasons.
FINAL SCC STANDINGS: 1. Mt. San Antonio 305, 2. Cerritos 238.5, 3. Long Beach 106.5, 4. Pasadena City 55, 5. El Camino 43, 6. East Los Angeles 29, 7. Compton 5.
Carlota Romay Rega won three events, the high jump (5-feet-1), 400 hurdles (1:06.51), and the heptathlon (3,912 points performed at start of this month) and nearly got a fourth but was defeated by Cerritos' Kailah Usi in the 100 hurdles, 15.59 to 15.62.
Mountie Leila Champion lived up to her name in winning both the 100 (11.97) and 200 meter dashes (24.65), the second in a photo finish to beat PCC's Jaylin Morgan by .01.
Kaitlyn Reyes also is a double champion with first place finishes in the 1,500 (4:47.49) and 5,000 (18:26.87), an event that Mt. SAC occupied the top six places for 36 team points. Another important race for the Mounties was Tigest Bergman winning the 10,000 meters at the Prelims held on April 22. She led four Mt. SAC runners at the top of the placings.
Cerritos won both the 4x100 (47.88) and 4x400 relay races (4:00.33) as Angel Corral was the lone Falcon to take part in both events. Perhaps the most exciting victory was turned in by Deona Standifer in an upset over Pasadena favorite Deniya Fields in the 400 as she rallied to beat Fields at the wire in 56.69.
The field events were mostly a Cerritos fest as it won the shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin, won by Kyra Miedecke at 138-8 as she is the state leader in that event at a best of 140-10. Mackenzie Monson is the hammer throw champion with a state-best toss of 172-2 and she also placed second in the shot put and discus.
El Camino's Tilliana Wakefield-Carl won the pole vault with a jump of 11-7.75 and Fields took first in the 800 at 2:22.98.
