Long Beach Women's Water Polo Dominates 7th SCC Title In A Row

In the history of women's water polo in the South Coast Conference, no team has made a bigger statement of who's the best than Long Beach City College performed at the 2022 SCC Tournament played Nov. 4-5 at El Camino College.

Not only did the Vikings capture their seventh straight conference championship and extend their SCC-winning streak to 65 in a row, but they did so in outscoring three tourney opponents by an extremely lopsided 68-4. 

In the finals game, Long Beach (19-10) made quick work of Mt. San Antonio, 21-1, as 11 different Vikings hit the back of the net. Leading the scoring parade were Chayma Hlanadif, Carlotta Zandali and Katie Juarez all with three goals. Kaya Barrett added two goals and three assists. 

The Mounties (16-9, 8-2) were limited to a first quarter, power-play goal by Alexandra Allen. It was the least goals Mt. SAC has scored in a game this season as Long Beach outshot the Mounties, 37-13. The Long Beach defense suffocated Mt. SAC's ability to attack, making 26 steals by 13 different players. 

LBCC routed El Camino, 24-2, in the semifinals as it spread the wealth in that match to with 11 different players scoring at least one goal, led by five from Amara Maxwell. The Vikings opened the tourney with a 23-1 victory over East Los Angeles. Hlanadiff scored five goals and Juarez added four while Sydney Brouwer tacked on two goals with five steals.

Long Beach last lost a conference match back in the 2015 season. 

Long Beach hosts the Southern California Championships Nov. 10-12 and settle in as the #3 seed. Mt. SAC is the only other conference qualifier as the #8 seed. SoCal Championship Schedule

THIRD PLACE FINAL, CERRITOS 13, EL CAMINO 5: Miranda Alvarez scored five goals and added three assists as the Falcons took third place over the Warriors. Kaya Glynn and Angelina Romero also picked up hat tricks for Cerritos (11-17, 7-3). For El Camino, Jackie Calhoun scored a pair of goals and made four steals.

FIFTH PLACE FINAL: CHAFFEY 11, RIO HONDO 7: Clarisssa Banuelos rifled in six goals and Jalynn Rodriguez put on an all-around clinic with a goal, five assists, nine steals and three field blocks to lead the Panthers to fifth place in the SCC. For the Roadrunners, Aliza Montenegro scored three goals and goalie Valentina Orozco made nine saves.

SEVENTH PLACE FINAL: FORFEIT-EAST LOS ANGELES 5, PASADENA CITY 0: The Lancers did not have enough players available to play in this year's tournament thus giving the Huskies the seventh place spot in the SCC.
