Mt. San Antonio Collects 10th State Women's Cross Country Championship

Mt. SAC wins the 2021 state women's cross country championship.

The Mt. San Antonio College women's cross country team beat closest competitor Hartnell, 63-79, to win the 44th running of the CCCAA State Championships meet held at Woodward Park in Fresno on Nov. 20. The Mounties earned their 10th state title and first since 2017. A South Coast Conference team has won three of the last four state team titles. It is the 15th state title from a South Coast Conference represented college.

The Mounties also completed the triple crown of cross country by winning the SCC, the Southern California, and state championships.

Mt. SAC's Hannah Brown ran 18:40 over the 3.1 miles course for fourth overall. She was followed by teammates Amanda Crowell (18th) and Kaitlyn Atkinson (19th). Their times were 19:18.3 and 19:23. Rounding out the five-place scoring for the Mounties were Claudia Vera (21st) and Kimberly Pena (22nd).

Cerritos College's Lauren Berg, the SCC individual champion, placed seventh at 18:54.3. In team scoring, Cerritos placed eighth, Long Beach City 13th, and LA Harbor 17th.

Ironically, Mt. SAC head coach Giovanni Lanaro has the distinction of winning a state title as a pole vaulter on the Mounties' 2000 state champion track and field squad and now directing a state title for the Mounties women.
