Harbor's Gomez Wins Race; Mt. SAC Picks Up 4th Straight SCC Women's Cross Country Crown

Los Angeles Harbor College harrier Sherlyn Gomez proved to be the head of the class while Mt. San Antonio College won its fourth straight South Coast Conference women's cross country championship title on Friday. The SCC meet was held at Long Beach's Heartwell Park.

Gomez, a sophomore who was All-SCC last year when she placed seventh, blew away the field of 58 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 33.1 seconds over the 3.1 miles course. She became the first Harbor runner in five years to be individual conference champion after the Seahawks' Marai Antanacio captured first in the 2019 championships.

Mt. San Antonio continued its dominance collecting its fourth consecutive SCC team title by placing eight racers as part of the All-SCC First and Second Teams (first 14 finishers). In 2021, the Mounties set the record for most All-SCC runners with nine. Mt. SAC placed seven of the top 10 in this meet.

Both the #2 and #3 overall runners are also returning All-SCC performers in top Mt. SAC scorer Ava Cornell (placed 10th last year) in second at 19:12.1 and teammate Tigest Bergman (ninth in the 2023 meet) in third at 19:18.4. 

The top racers from the other SCC colleges included East Los Angeles' Kiyoko Divecchio in fifth, Cerritos' Diana Raya Perez in 11th, Pasadena City's Ashley Sosa in 16th, El Camino's Elaine Dugmore in 18th, Long Beach City's Jennifer Martinez in 20th, and Compton's Shriyah Webb in 48th.
